Dielectric function of a colloidal solution near an interface with pure solvent

چکیده

The effective dielectric function of colloidal solution in the vicinity of a solution–pure solvent interface is discussed. A simple expression is derived for the transverse and longitudinal components of the dielectric permittivity tensor e J as a function of the distance from the interface. In the approximation made, the sole effect responsible for the e J anisotropy and space dependence is the asymmetry in the pair correlation function. Consequently, the final result is valid for dilute solutions only. The effect of polydispersity of the solute particles is considered in an approximate manner as well.

A differential dielectric spectroscopy setup to measure the electric dipole moment and net charge of colloidal quantum dots.

A sensitive dielectric spectroscopy setup is built to measure the response of nanoparticles dispersed in a liquid to an alternating electric field over a frequency range from 10(-2) to 10(7) Hz. The measured complex permittivity spectrum records both the rotational dynamics due to a permanent electric dipole moment and the translational dynamics due to net charges. The setup consists of a half-...

Influence of the solvent structure on the electrostatic interactions in proteins.

The proper estimation of the influence of the many-body dynamic solvent microstructure on a pairwise electrostatic interaction (PEI) at the protein-solvent interface is very important for solving many biophysical problems. In this work, the PEI energy was calculated for a system that models the interface between a protein and an aqueous solvent. The concept of nonlocal electrostatics for interf...

Local dielectric permittivity near an interface

– A statistical mechanics expression is derived for the space-dependent dielectric permittivity of a polar solvent near an interface. The asymptotic behaviour of this local per-mittivity is calculated in the low density limit, near a planar interface. The potential of mean force between two ions is shown to agree with the prediction of macroscopic electrostatics for large separations parallel t...

An Experimental and Theoretical Study of Freezing of Pure Aluminum

In this work, Boltzmann transform has been used to analyze the problem of freezing of pure Aluminum in semi-infinite domain. The uniqueness of solution (solidification front location) has been proved using the characteristics of the functions appeared in solution. The effect of density change on temperature distribution and errors resulting from ignoring this change have been investigated. The ...

Critical Casimir interactions and colloidal self-assembly in near-critical solvents.

A binary solvent mixture close to critical demixing experiences fluctuations whose correlation length, ξ, diverges as the critical point is approached. The solvent-mediated (SM) interaction that arises between a pair of colloids immersed in such a near-critical solvent can be long-ranged and this so-called critical Casimir interaction is well-studied. How a (dense) suspension of colloids will s...
